Two dudes named Bill and Dave had a dream long ago to enjoy awesome beer. Unfortunately for them, they weren’t old enough to buy these sought-after suds. They developed a brilliant SKeme to brew the finest beer in all their land, which luckily would give them all the beer two dudes could ever drink. In an era of corporate malt and yeast mongers, these two fellows were instilled with a new mission- to stand up for taste. They haven’t looked back since. Started in 1995, Ska Brewing has pumped out beer after medal-winning beer much to the chagrin of the residents of Durango, CO, and now to those nationwide. Try their Modus Hoperandi, “a mix of citrus and pine that will remind you of the time you went on a vision quest with your native American cousin and woke up in a pine-grove full of grapefruit trees.” Couldn’t have said it better ourselves. It’s mind-alteringly delicious. The first canned microbrew in the nation was Dale’s Pale Ale (see above). Second? ESB Special Ale from Ska. Try this classic Extra Special Bitter with your favorite rafting spot or on top of your favorite vista. Hell, try it with bacon and eggs if you so choose. Ska’s True Blonde Ale is made with local honey and compliments your favorite salad or fish without being overwhelmingly flavorful. It has a delicious balance of malts and hops. Want something that will kick you in the ass? Steel Toe Stout has a heavier body- roasty and milky to boot! Also enjoy their Decadent, Rudi’s, and Modus Mandarina. With plenty of varieties to choose from, enjoy SKALLOWEEN, great Ska beer on sale for a dollar off all October at Pettyjohn’s.
