Matthew Fritz- Mar/Apr 2019

Winery Focus- by Kas VanKoevering

Matthew Fritz

We put in the Cabernet and the Pinot Noir from Matthew Fritz during the 2015 holidays. We considered those two reds one of our best “finds” of the year. In the following year their Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc were released. This just screamed “Winery Focus”. We asked for an all-inclusive deal, and got it!

Matthew Fritz is the brainchild of Matt Bonanno and Fritz Stuhlmuller, both seasoned wine makers and already connected with the best growers in Sonoma. The fruit for these wines are sourced from wineries that are protected by non-disclosure agreements. Matt and Fritz will only disclose that the same fruit with a different label retails for between $20 and $30 per bottle!

The 2017 Matthew Fritz Chardonnay was sourced from Mendocino/Russian River – Vineyards located along the Russian River in southern Mendocino County just North of Hopland. This Chardonnay is bright and fresh with aromas of ripe pear and yellow apple. Crisp clean fruit, it finishes with flavors of white peach and just a hint of French Oak. The 2017 Matthew Fritz Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from small carefully tended vineyards in the cool coastal climates of Mendocino County. Using only stainless steel, its aromas are accented by lemon zest and crisp golden apples, with a touch of spice and floral notes. This lively wine is fresh and clean with crisp acidity. Both whites are now on sale for $9.99.

The 2017 Mathew Fritz Pinot Noir was sourced from two vineyard sites.   One vineyard is located at the headwaters of the Russian River in Menocino and the other is comprised from the rolling hill region of northern Ukiah, Redwood valley. This spent 8 months in French oak and is loaded with wild berries, spice and a firm acidity from a classic vintage

Wine maker Jim Maloney made the Cabernet with fruit sourced from some of the finest vineyards in California’s North Coast. This medium bodied wine exudes juicy, rich, black fruit flavors with hints of cinnamon and spice. Both reds are now on sale for $12.99.

These wines are truly deals while not on sale, but for the next two months, they’re Screaming Deals.
