Klinker Brick- Sept/Oct 2020

Kas’ Winery Focus

Klinker Brick Winery began with Steve and Lori Felten in 2000, with their inaugural vintage of Klinker Brick Old Vine Zinfandel. However, the family’s story goes back much further than that, farming grapes in Lodi since the late 1800’s. Throughout their history of farming, they have had a special connection to the land and respect for the unique growing climate in Lodi. The winery is 100% family owned and operated by Steve and his daughter Farrah, the 5th and 6th generations of grape growers in Lodi. The focus of Klinker Brick Winery is to maintain an ongoing commitment to innovative winemaking, and the production of world class wine.

Klinker Brick – Albariño – 2019 Reg 16.99 SALE 12.99

We harvest our Albarino in two stages, and varying brix levels. One lot in mid-August with higher acidity and 19.9 brix, and one in mid-September at 22 brix. After hand harvesting early in the morning, each lot is destemmed at the winery and pressed into stainless steel tanks for fermentation.

TASTE: Strong floral aromas with hints if lychee burst from the glass. A mid-pallet richness and mouthwatering acidity enhance flavors of white stone fruit, fleshy peach and spring melon. A fresh clean finish with notes of lemon pith.

Klinker Brick – Rosé – 2019 Reg 16.99 SALE 12.99

In line with previous vintages, the 2019 Bricks & Roses Rose is a true expression of a ‘Provence– style’ rose, and a bit of a passion project for our winemaker Joseph. Whole cluster pressed, and no skin contact, result in a wine that is somewhat lighter and more delicate on the palate. Exhibiting floral and citrus notes, the blend consists of 40% grenache, 24% Mourvèdre, 18% Syrah, and 18% Carignane.

Taste: Mouthwatering notes of white peach and strawberry. Crisp and refreshing texture that integrates subtle acidity with balanced, slightly generous mid-pallet, and a dry finish.

Klinker Brick – Grenache Blanc – Reg 16.99 SALE 12.99

Most commonly found in Rhône wine blends, our Grenache Blanc exhibits traditional aromas of lemon and lime coupled with a hint of white peach. Crisp, bright flavors of citrus and Anjou pear lead into a silky smooth finish. Pair this Grenache Blanc with a rich, fatty fish or grilled chicken.

Klinker Brick – Brickmason Red – 2016 Reg 16.99 SALE 12.99

With an arsenal of 16 different Zinfandel vineyards, we chose two that expressed the broad range of the varietal. The Costa Vineyard expresses lighter bodied and bright zinfandel exhibiting red fruit, acidity, and spicy pepper. While the Burney Mettler vineyard is a full bodied and dense style Zinfandel with firm tannins. In order to bring additional structure and dimension to the blend, we turned to our Syrah, Petite Syrah, and Cabernet blocks. The combination of these four varietals made for a delicious wine that is truly emblematic of the Klinker Brick Portfolio of wines.

Taste: A brilliant balance of toasty vanilla, rich dark fruit, and a linear acidity the Brickmason Red Blend consists of 80% Zinfandel, 10% Barrel fermented Syrah, 5% Cabernet, and 5% Petite Syrah.

Flavors of blueberry and plum with baking spice are coupled with firm tannins, bold structure, and a long smooth finish.

Klinker Brick – Old Vine Zinfandel – 2016  (90 points WE & Editor’s Choice) Reg 17.99 SALE 15.99

Each year we blend from 16 different vineyard sites in the central Mokelumne region in Lodi to make our Old Vine Zinfandel. The average age of the vines used in our flagship wine, is approximately 85 years old. From the Costa vineyard planted in 1900, we get extremely small berries that are packed with flavor, spice and velvety texture due to the skin to flesh ratio. The Marissa vineyard fruit, planted in 1928, often showcases a distinct eucalyptus note and exhibits more of a lighter feminine quality. The Burney Mettler Block 2 vineyard, planted in 1962, gives us elements of bing cherries and fresh raspberry.

Taste: Delta Breezes and the associated Tule fog that blankets our vineyards in the mornings, allow us to retain above average acidity for the region, providing notes of bright cherry and raspberry. Barrel fermentation brings additional structure. Low yields from century old vines bring forth notes of sweet tobacco and cocoa. Bold and spicy, with blackberry and plum flavors all held in perfect balance with the underlying acidity.

Klinker Brick – Cabernet Sauvignon – 2016  (91 points WE & Editor’s Choice) Reg 17.99 SALE 15.99

The search for a Lodi microclimate that was suited for growing Cabernet led us to the eastern side of the Mokelumne River AVA, closer to the Clements Hills AVA. Slightly higher in elevation, combined with pockets of volcanic soil, the Bechtold vineyard is one of the oldest Cabernet plantings in all of Lodi. Located behind the Klinker Brick Tasting Room, this 4.5 acre parcel is ideal for growing Cabernet.

Taste: The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits medium dark ruby color ; intense blueberry with hints of clove and tobacco. 16 months in 100% French oak barrels encourage a full body, fruit driven wine with notes of cassis and supple dark cherry on the palate.

Klinker Brick – Farrah Syrah – 2016 (92 Points WE & Editor’s Choice) Reg 20.99 SALE 17.99

Originating from our estate in the Mokelumne River AVA, the Syrah vineyard was made famous with the very first 90+ rated wine out of Lodi. Sustainably farmed, and hand-picked, the Farrah Syrah vineyard is named after the 6th generation owner of Klinker Brick Winery. This wine is 100% estate fruit, 100% Syrah, 100% French oak ageing, and 40% is barrel fermented.

Taste: Ruby red in color, the wine gives aromas of Herbs de Provence, black raspberry and toasty vanilla. The pallet bursts with ripe cherry, dark plum, and a hint of bacon fat. True to the Klinker Brick style, the wine is balanced with juicy acidity and a fine tannin structure.

Klinker Brick- Old Ghost Zin – 37.99 Limit 6 Bottles

The Old Ghost represents the best Zinfandel that Klinker Brick produces each year. Brambleberry fruit aromas intermingled with anise, clove and exotic spice, echo previous vintages. Smaller berries harvested from this vineyard block tend to offer more “skin to flesh,” providing a greater level of smooth yet firm tannin and structure to this wine. Pair with your prime porterhouse or grilled lamb.
