Winery Focus- Castle Rock $9.99 by Ann Coppinger, Owner/Wine Buyer
Greg Popovich founded Castle Rock Winery in 1994 after many years in the wine business. His passion was to create a business model that produced award-winning wines at affordable prices. With the help of Chris Noble, his Chief Operating Officer; and veteran Winemaker Eric Laumann, Castle Rock was ranked #1 by the Wine Spectator for California Wines retailing under $25 per bottle in April, 2018.
Castle Rock does not own any land, but instead has growing contracts with over 40 growers. The wineries they rent are located in Napa, Sonoma, Willamette Valley in Oregon, and in the Columbia Valley of Washington. They do not own any real estate, marketing teams, or a large staff. They focus most of the capital into making the “best bang for the buck” wines.
For January and February we will be spotlighting six of their releases, all on sale for $9.99! The Paso Robles Cabernet is a Double Gold medal winner with a score of “88” from Wine Spectator. A classic rich Cab with cherry and spice fruits and a hint of vanilla. The Lodi Zinfandel was rated a “Best Buy” by Wine Enthusiast and rated “86” by Wine Spectator. It’s loaded with blackberry and raspberry fruit, a peppery hint and is incredibly complex. The Central Coast Pinot Noir was listed by Wine Enthusiast as a “Top Value”, The Rose of Pinot Noir is not to be missed. It’s been rated 88 by Wine Spectator and won a Double Gold medal winner also. We’ll also stack the Gold Medal winning Sauvignon Blanc from Mendocino, and the Merlot from the Columbia Valley; rated “88” by the Wine Spectator three vintages in a row.
While we’re all paying our Christmas bills and anticipating our income taxes, it’s nice to sit back a relax with stellar wines that fit today’s budget.
“Since our beginning 20 years ago, we have always believed that discerning wine lovers should be able to enjoy excellent wines at excellent prices. At Castle Rock Winery we have dedicated ourselves to making delicious, handcrafted wines from some of the finest appellations on the West Coast: California (Napa Valley, Sonoma County, Carneros, Mendocino County, Monterey County, Paso Robles), Oregon (Willamette Valley) and Washington (Columbia Valley). We pride ourselves on the quality of our wines, which are often comparable to wines costing two or three times as much. For us, it’s all about quality and value.”
