Wine tasting lineup, Friday 5-7pm
We know it has been a long time since Malbec Madness but we are excited to be bringing it back! Come join us this week for some beautiful wines and the chance to fill out your bracket! Come in each week this month and vote for your favorites. The person with the most accurate bracket will win a bottle of the Malbec that wins the most votes over the course of the month. We’ve missed doing this and are excited to have it up and going and to have the opportunity to share some of our favorite Malbecs with you!
MDZ: This Malbec comes alive with hints of mocha, blueberry, cherries, and rose petals that lead to a rich mouth feel held up by a good structure and smooth tannins. This fruit driven wine showcases boysenberry, blackberry, cocoa and cola nut flavors on the palate. The finish is long and smooth with hints of dried herbs and cedar that encapsulate the bright and vibrant wine.
Durigutti Family: This classic Malbec is lush, with boysenberry, plum sauce, dark licorice and fruitcake flavors that are held together by a juicy underpinning. Licorice and fruitcake notes take an encore on the slightly raisined finish.
La Posta “Fazzio”: The vibrant nose of red and black cherries and ripe plums combines with floral touches of violets and rose petals. It holds a nice tannic structure that is full on the palate. Vanilla, chocolate, and some spice appears to make it more complex.
Piattelli Gran Reserva: Rich and juicy, bursting with blueberry and blackberry flavors, this blend of equal parts Tannat and Malbec (we know it’s slightly cheating to let this in the tasting) manages to present both varieties without overpowering either. Tense in its structure, it captures the syrupy-violet richness of Malbec without losing the tannins of Tannat, making for a beautiful wine in total.
