Tastings every Friday 5-7
This Week- Lighter Fare for Summer Air
This Friday we’re tasting four fun-filled summer wines that are perfect hot-weather quaffs. We’ll taste a Vinho Verde Rosé, a Sauv Blanc from Cali, and a Chardonnay showdown between a family-owned favorite and a national bestseller and behemoth. We look forward to seeing you!
Aveleda Vinho Verde Rosé, Portugal – $10.49
Made from the main red indigenous varieties of the Vinho Verde region, this wine is an authentic rosé from the region. The night harvest allows the grapes to keep their freshness and aromatic properties. This rosé is made using the direct pressing technique: when arriving at the vinification center, the grapes are directly pressed at low pressures to avoid skin contact creating a beautiful pink color. Pale rose, as the Provence style, this wine is young and fruity, with a crisp and delicate
bouquet marked by notes of red berries. The low alcohol (less than 11%) and the bargain price is an added bonus.
Matthew Fritz Sauvignon Blanc, North Coast, California- $14.99
Matt Bonanno and Fritz Stuhlmuller joined forces to create Matthew Fritz, MF, with the mission to consistently deliver premium wines from top-notch appellations at outstanding prices. A blend of fruit grown in the six counties north of San Francisco creating a wonderful complexity. This has fresh aromas that are accented by lemon zest and crisp golden apples. The palate has a touch of spice and floral notes. This lively wine is fresh and clean with crisp acidity perfect for hot weather, light fare, and some of your last days at the pool.
Chardonnay Showdown!- Both Family-owned and cool, coastal fruit.
Kendall Jackson Vintner’s Reserve Chardonnay, California- $15.99.
America’s #1 selling Chardonnay for 29 years!
Kendall Jackson is a family-owned winery in California’s Santa Rosa that produces a range of delicious wines, including America’s favorite Chardonnay.
The winery has several accolades to its credit, including a spot in ‘Wine and Spirits’ magazine’s ‘Top 100 Wineries Of The Year’ for the tenth time in 2011. The estate’s flagship Vintner’s Reserve Chardonnay was served at the Reagan White House and became Nancy Reagan’s favorite. Handcrafted in small vineyard lots throughout the entire winemaking process, the grapes are from California’s cool, coastal growing regions: Monterey County, Santa Barbara County, Mendocino County, and Sonoma County. This wine was oak aged 7 months prior to bottling.
91 points- Wine Enthusiast- This medium-bodied, barrel-fermented wine offers light, toasted oak aromas, attractive baked apple flavors and accents of butter and vanilla. Good balance keeps it going sip after sip, revealing spice and almond nuances.
