Preparing for something BIG…

Well, the pumpkins are now the squirrels’ property, our stomachs survived another candy gorging, and November is here whether we want it here or not. The days may be getting shorter and the roads a bit icier but we have quite the upcoming schedule to warm your heart and cup. Tonight is our last regular Friday wine tasting before a slew of stupendous tastings take us into our 50th Anniversary Extravaganza. We hope you are as excited as we are to celebrate 50 great years in Boulder. Please join us for as many as you can!

Nov. 8th– Steve Lewis from Guiliana Imports tastes his estate-bottled olive oils

Nov.16th– Taste our Humane Society wines. Every bottle sold will donate $1.00

Nov.23rd– Spencer Shull, Fess Parker’s grandson pours his special releases from the Santa Barbara winery
Dec. 6th– Michael Caines, chocolatier/owner of Shanao chocolate / Pettyjohn’s loyal customer offers his picks, while we pour our dessert wines

Napa Cellars Chardonnay 2017- Reg $19.99 Sale $15.99

The Napa Cellars 2017 Chardonnay displays classic Napa Valley Chardonnay characteristics indicative of this region. Aromas of baked apple, ripe Bosc pear, crème brûlée and lemon curd excite the senses. A soft mouthfeel supports flavors of green apple flavors with orange zest and almond pastry balanced with late, crisp acidity pulling together this well balanced, full-bodied Chardonnay.This is the perfect wine to pair with a Camembert French cheese plate drizzled with local honey and almond halves, or with panna cotta topped with fresh berries for dessert.

Château Carbonneau Sequoia Bordeaux 2015- $12.99 Sale $10.99

It is many a year since we tasted a petit château Bordeaux worth its classic retail price-tag, so our hearts leapt when we encountered this old-fashioned beauty seemingly caught in a commercial time-warp. Wilfrid Franc de Ferrière, despite his aristocratic-sounding French name, speaks an unaffected English with a disconcerting New Zealand twang to it (he’s married to a Kiwi). Ste. Foy is in the extreme south-eastern part of Bordeaux.A relatively sumptuous wine skillfully raised in barriques that remains faithful to its Bordeaux roots while appealing to fans of Merlot’s potential for softly plumy fruit.

Vietti Perbacco Nebbiolo delle Langhe 2016- $25.99

Luca Currado likes to remind me that this wine could qualify as a full-fledged Barolo. Barrels not used in the final Barolo Castiglione blend are used to make the 2016 Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco. In fact, its very name “Perbacco” translates into a somewhat corny “golly gosh” because that was the reaction Luca’s mom had when she first tasted the wine and was told it was not a Barolo. “Perbacco, it tastes like Barolo,” was her comment—and a legend was born… Today, Langhe Nebbiolo is one of the fastest-growing categories in the entire wine region. This beautiful vintage, with its balanced fruit and freshness, is a perfect example. -Robert Parker

Moscato d’Asti Cascinetta 2018- Reg $14.99 Sale $13.99
