by Ann Coppinger- On Thursday night, November 16th we will be tasting wines made with the Grenache grape varietal. I have wanted to do this tasting for years because I think many people are enjoying this versatile grape without knowing it.
Grenache is one of the most widely planted grapes in the world. It needs a hot and dry climate and ripens late. It most likely originated in Spain, where the conditions are perfect and some of the vines are very old. Generally spicy and soft on the palate with red fruits of raspberry and strawberry and a subtle white pepper note, this varietal is a people-pleaser. Grenache is also a perfect blending grape, typically with Syrah, Carignan, Tempranillo and Cinsault.
You may be thinking, “I’ve never had a Grenache”. Have you ever had a: Chateauneuf du Pape, an Australian GSM, a Cotes du Rhone, a Sardinian Cannonau, a Rioja, a Spanish Garnacha, a Tavel or Rhone Rosé, or Australian port? Yes, you’ve been drinking Grenache.
Come learn more about this grape, learn how terroir and wine making practices affects the flavors, and have some delicious Carelli’s pizzas, salads and appetizers. Space is limited, and it’s $35 per person. Call 303-499-BEER(2337) to reserve a seat.

Charlie pouring fall
Foris Gewurztraminer- Reg. $16.99 SALE $13.99
First up for the night we have the Foris Gewurztraminer. Starting off subtle but quickly gaining intensity, this wine opens with aromas of rose petals, gardenia and a hint of white pepper and herbal spices. Tropical fruit flavors, such as papaya and mango, layer across the palate before leading into a spicy finish balanced nicely by lively acidity. The wine is ripe, dry and refreshing, and a perfect compliment to salty or spicy foods. In this case we have it set up in our Whites display, and there is no better time to try this perfect Holiday wine than tonight!
Prodigo Sauvignon Blanc- Reg. $12.99 SALE $10.99

Up next is the Prodigo Sauvignon Blanc. Most often we think whites from Italy being Pinot Grigio but here they show us that they can make a darn good Sauvignon Blanc as well! It’s a vibrant and aromatic wine with fresh flavors of peach blossom and citrus fruits. In the nose it shows intense and persistent aromas of flowers and citrus. The palate is smooth and full with a clean finish that stays around for just the right amount of time. We’ve loved this wine since we brought it in and decided it was a great time to revisit it!

SALE  $11.99

Third up for the evening we have the Confidencial Reserva, our new favorite red out of Portugal. This wine shows great complex aromas of red fruits and some vanilla in the nose before giving way to slightly spicy and ripe notes. On the palette this bottle is medium bodied and well balanced, with sensations of red fruits, combined with the elegancy of wood notes and fine tannins provided by aging in 250 liter oak barriques. On the finish it is smooth, with some acidity and complexity, overcoming ripe fruit, chocolate and some dry fruits giving this inexpensive wine much more depth than one might think. Don’t miss trying it while we have it open!

7 Deadly Sins- Reg. $16.99 SALE $14.99
Last up for the night we have the 7 Deadly Zins from Micheal David. This bottle opens with crushed berry, soft oak and pipe tobacco notes which create a strong nose that leaves you wanting more. This vintage shows explosive, concentrated fruit in the mouth, with plenty of acidity to balance the ripeness. Spicy, with black berries and black pepper on the finish, this wine definitely lingers on your palette. Primarily Zin with a bit of petite syrah, this big wine is great with food so have some guests over and enjoy! (Or save it all for yourself, we understand)

See you tonight!
