Originally native to France but now most enjoyed from Argentina and Chile, Malbec is a go-to wine varietal option. For the past 10+ years, we have pitted 30+ Malbecs against each other to see which one reigns supreme (judged by our local and loyal wine enthusiasts). Last year’s overall winner was the ~$15 Bousquet, which will it be this year?! Join us over the next 5 weeks as we pick the best of the best, the creme de la creme, of the Malbec grape varietal. Tintonegro Malbec- Reg. $11.99 SALE $7.99
First up this week, for a preview of Malbec Madness, we are starting with the Tintonegro Malbec. This dark, heavy Malbec opens with aromas of candied blackberry, blueberry, licorice, bitter chocolate and menthol. On the palate juicy and spicy dark berry flavors are complicated by mint, herbs and licorice. Towards the finish it shows good cut and grip along with acidity that is a bit tart. Lastly it finishes with firm tannins, a tactile saline quality and hints of chocolate and herbs. A great representation of Malbec at a great price, this is one you’ll want to stock up on!
Doña Paula Estate Malbec- Reg. $16.99 SALE $10.99
Second up for the evening we have the Doña Paula Estate Malbec. This bottle always does great in Malbec Madness, and is always a store favorite. Pouring an intense violet color, this wine shows it means business from the moment it leaves the bottle. The nose is full of black fruits, violets and a touch of spice that finishes with mineral and graphite notes. On the palate the wine has great balance and freshness in the mouth, with good concentration and medium structure. A great bottle for the snow, and another great preview to Malbec Madness it’s sure to warm up your evening!
Kaiken Terrior Series- Reg. $15.99 SALE $13.99

Third up is the Kaiken Terrior Series Blend. Powerful and dense on the nose this wine shows a varied gamut of aromas, which give elegance to this bottle. Red fruit aromas, such as plum, can also be detected, along with the floral notes characteristic of Malbec. Chocolate and vanilla from oak aging hit towards the end of the nose and on the palate. Bold in the mouth, yet very soft and silky, backed by the structure and depth of Petit Verdot it’s sure to please just about anyone. Another long time store favorite, we couldn’t resist putting this one in a tasting, even if it’s not 100% Malbec.
D. V. Catena Blend- Reg. $20.99 SALE $17.99
Last, but certainly not least, we the D.V. Catena Blend. A blend of 92% Malbec and 8% Petit Verdot, it’s hard to call this a blend, but even still, it’s a wonderful wine. From one of our favorite producers, this bottle is bursting with depth and complexity. In the glass this wine is a deep purple hue with notes of dark fruit, herbal spices and a heavy earthiness. On the palate there is more of the same, with the dark fruit leading into a heavy influence from the terrior. Another excellent bottle, this is another wonderful preview to the Madness!
