Great Tasting in the ‘Werks’

Get funky this Thursday with one of Denver’s most beloved breweries. Funkwerks has been focused on the art of the Saison since winning a Gold Medal at the National Homebrew Competition in 2007. Try some of their perfection with us. Last week Robin poured some savory Avery. Their Lilokoi Tart ‘n’ Fruity was a hit as predicted- we love it. Robin has been a beer aficionado at Pettyjohn’s for six and a half years and he loves to see new faces. We hope to see some tonight!

Funkwerks Saison Belgian Ale

The flagship beer Saison from Funkwerks is their highest rated beer on, with a respectable rating of 95 pts. The praise is just, as I am sure Belgian monks would agree. The taste is of passion fruit, tangerine, lemon and pepper, with a wonderful aroma to boot. This beer has a very dry finish, and sits at 6.8% abv.

Funkwerks Tropic King Imperial Saison

Funkwerks Tropic King is the same style as the Saison, only Imperial, vaguely meaning more ingredients per same amount water; this very much changes the flavor, while adding more alcohol. The folks at Funkwerks add New Zealand Rakau hops, giving Tropic King its tropical passion fruit and mango flavors. Along with the Saison, Tropic King helped Funkwerks earn small brewing company of the year in the 2012 Great American Beer Fest… A very prestigious beer award!

Funkwerks Nelson Sauvin Single Hopped Saison

Yet another Saison, only this time hopped with New Zealand nelson sauvin hops, which are known for their white wine characteristics. Fruity like the first two, only less tropical fruits like gooseberries and honeydew come through. Just a hint of spiciness. 7.5% abv.

Funkwerks Raspberry Provincial Belgian-Style Fruit Sour

Technically Raspberry Provincial is a Berliner Weissbier: a clean, non-hoppy, top-fermented wheat ale with lactobacillus culture. The brewers at Funkwerks brilliantly added raspberry, which compliments the tart, crisp flavor of the style. The malts add a nice earthy spice that balances the beer and helps it from being one of those overly fruity ales. Among the many coveted awards Funkwerks has received, this beer earned them a Belgian-style fruit beer gold medal at the 2014 Great American Beer Fest.
