Thirsty Thursday Beer Tasting
Please join us tonight from 5-7pm for our FREE, new, in-store, weekly, Thirsty Thursday beer tasting. Last week, Robin poured Odell Brewing. Everyone really enjoyed their new Treeshaker Imperial Peach IPA. This week, he’ll be scooting around the store and pouring Ska Brewing. Robin has been a beer connoisseur at Pettyjohn’s for six and a half years and we’re excited to have him start spreading his passion to our community.

Ska Mexican Logger
Many love nothing more than a Corona or Pacifico on a warm day, and it is those folks who may find a new favorite in Ska’s seasonal Mexican Lager. This one is light and crisp, and is highlighted by the addition of subtle saaz hops. Only 20 IBUs and 5.2% abv, this one is made to pound down.
Ska Pinstripe Red Ale

Like the Mexican Logger, I would call the Pinstripe Red Ale a Sessionable (i.e. easy to drink a lot in a session) beer. Pinstripe has the same abv. and only 30 IBUs, which is by no means a hoppy beer, but more so than the Mexican Logger. This flagship beer from Ska has nice caramel malts and liberty hops, but is highlighted in being an all around neutral ale and is a people pleaser beer.
Ska Modus Hoperandi IPA

Next up is Ska’s best seller here at Pettyjohn’s, Modus Hoperandi IPA. I consider this beer to be the basis of comparison for all Colorado IPAs as this is simply one of the best. Modus is a classic west coast style: piney, sticky and fruity hop finish, while the bitterness is balanced by the malts more than some of your Cali IPAs. 88 IBUs, 6.8% abv.

Ska Modus Mandarina IPA
Last we have the newest beer from the folks at Ska Brewing, Modus Mandarina. The Mandarina is a take on the Hoperandi, with the same IBUs and abv. however, has an orange twist to it. Ska dry hops this one with mandarina bavaria hops, and adds sweet orange peels to come up with a delightful citrus IPA. This beer is first and foremost an IPA, so you may find you like it even if you usually don’t like fruit beers.
