Pinot Noir Tasting at Carelli’s Italian Restaurant
santa barbara wine

Taste Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara County.
Join us Tuesday, April 26th at Carelli’s
“No viticultural region in America has demonstrated as much progress in quality and potential for greatness as… the Santa Barbara region, where the Burgundian varietals Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are planted in its cooler climates.”- Food & Wine, Robert Parker Jr.
It seems that just about every time I have the opportunity to taste a Pinot Noir from the Santa Barbara county, it lifts me off the floor. The terroir of this region- the valleys that run east and west, cool ocean breezes, and unique soils make this an exciting wine region to explore and taste how it is expressed in Pinot
Noir.

Santa Barbara is currently home to five American Viticultural Areas (AVAs), with at least two more on the horizon. Join us from 6:30 to 8PM, Tuesday, April 26, to taste seven outstanding Pinot Noirs, while enjoying Carelli’s delicious appetizers. Seats are limited, $35.00 per person, call Pettyjohns at 303-499-2337 (BEER) to reserve your spot. A credit card is required.

Benziger Sauvignon Blanc- Reg. $15.79, Sale $11.99, YOUR PRICE $9.99

 benziger sauvignon blanc

Tasting Notes:
Bright citrus and floral aromas introduce our Sauvignon Blanc. In the mouth, it is fresh and enduring, providing a good, but not heavy, volume. This Old World-style Sauvignon Blanc offers subtle minerality and notes of grapefruit and lime. The wine’s acid is both balanced and integrated, giving it an elegant softness.

Grapes from the North Coast appellation, a rather large AVA, are harvested from multiple vineyards chosen for their excellent site location and soil makeup. Each site contributes its own flare to create this complex, deeply layered wine. In the vineyard, canopy management and crop thinning are instrumental in achieving the perfect fruit-to-acid balance. It is aged in 100% stainless steel drums and left on its lees to develop more complexity and mouthfeel.

19 Crimes Red- Reg. $10.99, Sale $9.99. YOUR PRICE $8.99

19 crimes red
Odds and ends: The British government began transporting criminals to Australia in 1788, when the first ship of mainly petty thiefs and political prisoners arrived to serve their time at this faraway penal colony. These criminals went on to found the first settlement, called Sydney, and then later Adelaide. About the time that Britain stopped this practice in 1868, vines were planted not far from Adelaide in the Barossa Valley. Knowing the history, the label of the wine makes more sense, referring to the 19 offenses that got people a one-way trip Down Under. In any case, this is an interesting and delicious wine, blended from a highly unusual mix of French grape varietals. I do like lighter styles of wine for the summer months. Paired with red meat, this is an utterly affordable great red wine. Drink it now through 2018.

ALL Ska Brewing 12pk, 6pk, 4pk- YOUR PRICE $1 OFF!

Somewhere out in Colorado, in the year nineteen hundred and ninety-five,two guys named Dave and Bill learned that

while they loved gulping down good beer, they weren’t yet old enough to buy it. They figured an answer to their quandary would appear if they drank enough and listened to enough thinking music, also known as Ska. On the second Skaturday of Skatember it hit them. If they brewed their own beer they’d have all the beer they could ever want. And while they were at it, why not brew the most magnificent suds ever quaffed in their neck of the woods…or any other neck for that matter.
