Take a Hike!
Happy Friday! What a beautiful weekend to hit the trails and then try some wine (or vice versa if you’re into night hiking). Tonight we are tasting some lighter, warmer-weather wines and even a boxed wine you can take hiking/camping. March to your local wine experts and then march up the miles and miles of local trails that Boulder has to offer. Don’t forget you are also keeping your New Year’s resolutions (drinking more wine=being healthier, hiking=exercise, Pettyjohn’s=supporting local mom and pop shop). Enjoy the sunshine!

OUR FRIDAY LINE-UP:
Gloria Ferrer Blanc de Noirs- Reg. $20.99 SALE $16.99
First up is the Gloria Ferrer Blanc de Noirs. Primarily Pinot Noir with a small amount of Chardonnay this sparkling wine is truly beautiful. Displaying bright strawberry and black cherry aromas with subtle vanilla highlights, the nose is sure to impress. Creamy cherry, lemon and cola flavors combine with small, lively bubbles and a persistent finish to give it a lush palate. A great bottle to start thinking about for Valentines day!
Hogue Gewerztraminer- Reg. $10.99 SALE $7.99
Up next we have the Hogue Gewerztraminer. True to its name, this Gewurztraminer offers up varietal spiciness, along with intense aromas and flavors of lychee, apricot, peach, and citrusy notes of orange and lemon-lime. Soft and rich, with a balancing acidity and a slight mineral character, Gewurztraminer is excellent as an aperitif or served with appetizers. Another great bottle at a price that won’t break the bank!
La Vielle Ferme Red – Reg. $24.99 SALE $19.99
The La Vieille Ferme Red begins with very pleasant aromas of black cherry, plum and a little lavender along with nice touches of dried herbs, spice and even a hint of an earthy note. Tasting reveals a supremely satisfying, well-rounded, medium-bodied wine filled with juicy fruit, good acidity and some more of those dried herbs and spice notes from the nose. There’s absolutely nothing not to like here (especially at this price) and, in fact, a whole lot to love. It ends dry and grippy with good length, lingering fruit and dried herbs.
Sobon Estate Zinfandel- Reg. $14.99 SALE $11.99
Last up we have the Sobon Zin. Ann and I tried this this week and it sure did blow us away. Beautiful aromas of blackberry, cocoa, and mulberry highlight the wine. The flavor of ripe plum, berry, and chocolate bring out the true old-vine character of this wine. A strong finish rounds out the palate. A Zin that displays much more complexity than the cost would suggest, this if the perfect wine for our “We have Zinned” month. Also a great bottle to pair with chocolate and a great one to have around for Valentines day!
